Our Cardiology Services
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
The electrocardiogram, or ECG, is a basic test in cardiology. It maps the electrical activity of the heart using electrodes placed on the skin. This test can provide initial indications of arrhythmias, oxygen deficiency in the heart muscle, or structural abnormalities of the heart. It is a very quick and completely painless test.

Cardiac Ultrasound
This examination looks at the structure and function of the heart using ultrasound. Gel is applied to the outside of the chest and, through the gel, ultrasonic (inaudible) sound waves are sent to the heart using an echo transducer. When these waves return, they are converted into an image. This allows the pumping function and structure of the heart to be mapped. Doppler technology can also be used to assess the function of the heart valves and measure the pressures in the heart.
The same technique can be used to evaluate the big arteries like the carotid arteries.
Exercise Testing
During this test, the patient will be asked to exercise by cycling. The resistance of the bike will be gradually increased, as if the patient were cycling up an increasingly steep hill. While cycling, as with the ECG, electrodes on the skin are used to monitor the electrical activity of the heart. This is painless. This allows arrhythmias triggered during exercise to be detected and an assessment to be made of whether there is a lack of oxygen in the heart muscle. In addition, this test also provides a good picture of the patient's exercise capacity, which is important when interpreting certain symptoms.
Device checkup and holter monitoring
If you have a pacemaker or defibrillator, regular checks (every 6-12 months) of this device are recommended. We also offer this service at our practice. We will check whether your device is working correctly, whether any arrhythmias have occurred that require additional treatment, and whether the battery capacity of the device is still adequate.
If you do not have a pacemaker or defibrillator but may have arrhythmias, we will place a small, external monitor that tracks your heartbeat for 24 hours and helps to make a correct diagnosis.
